Introduction to Self-Priming Pumps

The self-priming pump is a type of self-priming centrifugal pump characterized by a compact structure, ease of operation, smooth running, simple maintenance, high efficiency, long service life, and strong self-priming capability. No foot valve is required in the pipeline; one need only ensure a specific amount of priming liquid remains in the pump casing before operation. Pumps made of different materials can be selected to suit different types of liquids.

The working principle involves filling the pump casing with water (or retaining water within it) prior to startup. Once started, the impeller rotates at high speed, driving the water in the impeller channels toward the volute casing. This creates a vacuum at the inlet, causing the inlet check valve to open; air from the suction pipe is then drawn into the pump and travels through the impeller channels to the outer periphery.
